Unfortunately you will be called upon to make some important decisions within the minutes, hours and days after the death of a loved one. Your grief may cause you to have a difficult time concentrating and digesting all of the information thrown at you so consider having a friend, relative or a professional advisor come along with you to help with the decision-making for these first few steps.

In the Hours Following:

  • Protect against burglary
  • Notify people and institutions
  • Check for any Pre-arrangements for funeral and/or burial
  • Take advantage of Veteran's benefits
  • Follow-up on Organ Donation options
  • Obtain Death Certificates
  • Arrange for transportation to funeral home
  • Meet with clergy
  • Finalize funeral arrangements and calling hours
  • Finalize Memorial Service particulars
  • Prepare and place obituary
  • Let friends and family know about the arrangements
  • Notify out-of-towners so they can have time to make arrangements

    In the Days Following:

    • Keep Track of Visitors, Gifts, Donations, Flowers and Cards Received
