How we are different
There are many things that make Colgan Capital unique. Some might say it’s our dynamic money management process or our independence that yields unbiased advice. Others might refer to the fact that we have a wonderful team of employees and develop unusually strong relationships with clients. However, while this is all true, Colgan Capital’s real differentiation is our expertise in legacy planning and niche with widows and widowers.
Founder and President Mark Colgan is a renowned pioneer of legacy planning. Inspired by the challenges he faced as a young widower, Mark initially authored The Survivor Assistance Handbook: A Guide for Financial Transition in 2002. Afterward, he began speaking about how financial planning should address issues that arise after death. This led to his creation of the BreadcrumbsSM personal legacy planning program. Since then, he has appeared in such national publications as U.S. News and World Report, The Journal of Financial Planning, American Association of Individual Investors, and Money Adviser, a Consumer Reports publication. He has also been cited by Fox News, CBS MarketWatch, Oprah and Friends, and other mainstream media.
Beyond Mark’s reputation as a pioneer of legacy planning, he has also established a niche with widows and widowers. Naturally, having been a widower himself, Mark is very in tune with the real needs that arise after the death of a loved one. He can also relate to their challenges. Therefore, Mark can help widows and widowers handle their financial affairs more effectively and compassionately. It’s a competitive advantage that brings true value to anyone who has lost a loved one or someday will.
